Saturday I'm in love

No hubo tiempo para sesiones fotográficas ayer, la luz del invierno no lo permitió (y eso me recuerda que tengo que construirme un mini estudio para independizarme de los caprichos del sol), pero la mañana del sábado fue testigo de una reunión cumbre. Todas estas bestiecitas van a estar en mi tienda hoy.

 

There was no time for photoshoots yesterday, the winter light didn’t allow it (which reminds me I have to build a mini photo studio to become independent of the sun’s whims) but Saturday morning saw a gathering take place. All these little beasts are going to be in my shop today.

Mi favorita: la niña alada, la del cuerpo de jaula. Cuando fabrico una muñeca me enamoro, pero como todo enamoramiento dura poco. Cuando vuelvo a verla después de un par de meses me pregunto de qué me había enamorado. No sé cuánto va a durar, pero sépanlo: estoy enamorada de la niña alada. Feliz sábado para todos!


My favorite: the winged girl, the one with the birdcage body. When I make a doll I fall in love, but as with any other infatuation it doesn’t last long. When I see it again after a couple of months I wonder why I was so infatuated. I don’t know how long it will last, but for your information: I am in love with the winged girl. Happy Saturday to all!

First show & new studio

Si acaso sucediera que están por Chicago el fin de semana, tienen una chance de conocer en persona al niño pez (y otras dos señoritas que lo acompañan): mi primera expo de bestias!

A miles de kilómetros de Chicago, estoy estrenando lugar de trabajo (previamente galpón) después de tres semanas (originalmente iba a ser una) de albañiles dando vueltas, y así es como se ve mi mesa ahora:

 

Thousands of kilometres from Chicago, I have a new workspace (a former shed) after three weeks (originally just one) of builders wandering around the house. This is what my table looks like right now:

 

Unas hormas de madera esperando a ser colgadas en la pared y una niña con alas y cuerpo de jaula, que con suerte (subrayo: con suerte) estará en mi tienda mañana, entre otras cosas.

Some wooden shoe lasts waiting to be hung and a winged girl with a birdcage body. With a bit of luck, -and I stress that part- in my shop tomorrow.

News from the last days of autumn

Han pasado tres de los cinco meses de mi “retiro creativo” en Argentina. Estamos a un paso del invierno y casi ni me dí cuenta. Unos quince grados promedio y pleno sol engañan bastante. La parte creativa del retiro funciona bastante bien. De disciplina ni hablemos, pero está bien, porque por algo es un retiro. Disfruto de mis clases de dibujo, pintura y escultura. Eso sí: soy Daniel San (mis coetáneos van a acordarse de Karate Kid, o no?): pule, encera, pule, encera…en mi caso sería: dibuja una botella, dibuja una silla, dibuja una botella, dibuja una silla… pero me gusta y estoy aprendiendo a mirar.

Ahora las noticias: la chica japonesa despertó de su sueño de arcilla y sirve té verde en un rinconcito de la casa para todos lo que quieran visitarla y escuchar sus haikus.

I’ve now spent three of my five months' “creative retreat” in Argentina. We are a step away from winter and I almost hadn’t realized it. Fifteen degrees Centigrade and full sunshine can be deceptive. The creative part of the retreat is working quite well. Let’s not even talk about discipline… but it’s fine, because it’s a retreat after all. I enjoy my drawing, painting and sculpting lessons. Now, I am Daniel San (my contemporaries will remember The Karate Kid, won’t they?): wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off… in my case it would be: draw a bottle, draw a chair, draw a bottle, draw a chair… but I like it and I am learning to observe.

Now, the news: the Japanese girl has awoken from her dream of clay and now pours green tea in a corner of the house for all who want to visit and listen to her haikus.
